In all my years of gaming (It'll be 17 this fall) I have never found a group that wasn't at least 20% (and usually closer to 50%) interested in all the details of any wench they attempt to gain the services of. As noted in the Wench class I previously posted, they grant healing based on the amount of rest they prevent their client from attaining, so it was implied that the service was sex. What follows is a great deal of discourse on the dimensions of a human. Before reading this article consider the following:
- I am aware that Dungeon World is about asking questions and making statements, and not about how to bog it down with all sorts of rules.
- This is pedantic/nit-picking/immature.
- I don't care.
Weight
Ned's Head has Weight 1. We'll use that for later calculations. After a bit of a wiki-walk, and some Google Fu, I find that there are a number of both medical and non-medical consensus that indicate a head weighing between 4500 grams, and 6500 grams. It would not be unreasonable to assume 10-15 lbs is fair. Plagenhoef et al., 1983 said that the head itself was about 8% of a body's weight. 8% is about 1/12th, so we can assume humans are base Weight 12. Given that, we can asume the following:
- A dwarf is weight 12.
- An Elf is weight 10.
- A Halfling is weight 6. Though I haven't seen them, gnomes are fairly traditional in gaming, so if your game has them, a gnome is weight 4.
- An Orc is considered to be 15 weight rather than 12.
- Add +Str.
- Multiply Weight by 1d6+9 (which is a number between 10 and 15) to get lbs.
Height
Plagenhoef et al., 1983 puts height at a mean of 173 cm, or 5'8 (to both men and women). It is common convention to subtract 3" from men, and 6" from women in medieval times though. ( Side Note: Da Vinci said a human is about 8 heads tall, which puts a man's head around 8.5" and a woman's around 7.75". Not really apropos to anything, just an observation.)
- You can use base heights of 5'6 for men and 5'3 for women to reflect differences in medieval era... or not. Either way, if you want to randomize height roll 2d6-2d6 and add it to base height (it is possible to attain negative numbers this way, but this generates Base +/- up to 10")
- To find dwarf height, take human height, and subtract 2 feet.
- An elf is 6 inches taller than a human
- An orc is 1 foot taller than a human.
- A halfling is half human height.
Vital Statistics
I did quite a bit of math a number of years ago to generate ranges of numbers for bust, waist, and hips for women in some sexual supplements I wrote for some other games. Note that for these calculations, use of the attribute score will be spelled out while +Attribute denotes use of its modifier as given on DW 51.
Magic Number: this number is the base number that you calculate Bust, Waist, and Hips from. To determine the Magic Number, add +CON and +CHA to Wt.*2 (the DW stat, not lbs.).
Bust
Take the magic number and do the following:
- Add 1/2 STR Score (everything else uses modifier unless otherwise stated)
- +CON
- +CHA
- Round to a preferred even number.
Waist
Take the magic number and do the following:
- Subtract +DEX and +CHA (that is if you have negative modifiers in either, add them.)
- Add +CON
Hips
Take the magic number and do the following:
- Add +DEX
- Add +STR
- Add +CHA
Breast Protuberance and Cup Size
After an alarming amount of research into brassieres has led me to become aware that different companies have different sizing conventions and letter schemes, I decided several years ago to come up with my own rule for them. All rules for cup size are based on the premise that cup sizes are based on the amount the breast protrudes from the bust, and that basis forms what's shown below.
Base breast protuberance is based on maximum HP. Maximum HP is expressed as x+Constitution.
- Base Breast Protuberance is 1/2x
- Add +CHA
- Add +CON
- Subtract +STR (that is if you have a negative mod add it).
- Arcane magic is sexy! If the words Arcane, Ritual, or Spellbook show up anywhere in your playbook or Class Warfare Specialties, add +2.
- Servitude is stifling! If your Class has only Lawful or Good alignments, or the words Deity, Divine, or Commune show up anywhere in your playbook or Class Warfare specialties, take -1.
- Evil is Tempting! If your class has an Evil alignment option, whether you take it or not, add +2.
